Carrick singles out two MU heroes after a thrilling victory

Manager Michael Carrick highlighted two Manchester United players for their contributions after the dramatic victory against Leeds, which went to a penalty shootout.

Manchester United just went through a tough test against Leeds United during their preseason preparations. The Red Devils took the lead in the first half through Joshua Zirkzee, but Brenden Aaronson later leveled the score.

Michael Carrick's team actually had several chances to seal the match within 90 minutes. United hit the woodwork twice and had one goal disallowed for offside. Ultimately, the game went to penalties, where the Red Devils showed more composure to win.

After the match, Carrick was not only satisfied with the outcome. The English coach specifically named Jack Fletcher and Dermot Mee, two young players who made their mark in crucial moments.

"I think the young players did very well. I was really encouraged, especially by Jack stepping up to take the penalty with such great confidence. That was fantastic and exactly what the team needed."

The English tactician also sent a noteworthy message to the young talents striving to earn a place in the squad.

"There will be times when things don't go your way, but you have to keep believing and keep trying."

If Fletcher impressed with his composure from the penalty spot, Dermot Mee made the difference in goal.

The young goalkeeper was brought on to replace Senne Lammens and made a crucial save during regular time. In the decisive shootout, Mee continued to shine by saving a penalty from Leeds.

"He made an excellent save in regular time and then saved a penalty. This is another highlight for his career." Coach Carrick did not hide his satisfaction with the young goalkeeper's performance.

Fletcher and Mee were not the only young players Carrick gave opportunities to. Dan Armer was brought on to replace Ayden Heaven in defense, while Tynan Thompson had his first minutes in a Manchester United first-team shirt.

Carrick then stated that the group of young players all met the requirements when called upon and said each of them had put in encouraging performances.

Beyond the technical side, the MU coach was also impressed by the atmosphere in the stands. The large number of United fans in Dublin made the friendly feel like a real competitive match.

"I really enjoyed the whole evening. It felt like a real match. With the atmosphere and so many people coming to support us, we were the lucky ones to be part of it."
